Slovenian hops
The beginnings of hop cultivation in Slovenia date back to the 19th century. SAAZ and Bavarian hops did not catch on in the regions, but the British 'Golding' was a success. The resulting hops, now known as 'Styrian Golding' are probably a derivation of the Fuggle hops.
Today Slovenia has a large range of bittering and aromatic hops, most of which are grown from local cultivation programmes. Slovenia accounts for 2% of world production. The hops farms here have a total area of about 1600ha.
