    German hops

    The first recorded hop cultivation dates back to 736 in the Hallertau region of Bavaria, the origin of the famous Hallertauer hops, which account for around 30% of world production. Hallertau is also still the centre of hop-growing and the largest growing area with an area of 16,000ha. The total area of hops in Germany is approximately 19700ha.
