English hops
Hops have been grown in Kent for over 500 years and are associated with prosperity and happiness. British hops have aromas of citrus, grass, grapefruit, chocolate, spice, blackcurrant, pepper, tangerine, apricot, marmalade, mint, honey, flowers and molasses. Only a small proportion of British hops are irrigated, making them some of the most sustainable hops in the world.
Hop growing is now concentrated mainly in Kent, Suffolk, Sussex, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The total area of these areas is approximately 900ha.
