Chevallier reigned for more than 100 years. It was the dominant barley variety in England from 1820 to 1920. It formed the backbone of most Victorian beers and in its revived form is winning awards for its deep flavour. It has a robust maltiness, like Maris Otter, with a rich marmalade character and a long aftertaste.
